about

Written sometime late 2013 / early 2014 while I was living in Phoenix. I had relatively recently had a composition lesson that would change my life and get me thinking about mixing songwriting and composition. This piece was a serious and determined effort to mix the two.

Though I was uncomfortable, I brought this track into my composition lesson one week, and explained my yearning and my goal. I played the track for my teacher. He said, "well, it sounds like you're a pop guy that went to school to write music", which was the extent of his feedback.

Looking back, I think many of my teachers were sympathetic and open to mixing music in the way that I want to / do, but I suppose I wish they had been better equipped to help. If I had realized then what I know now, I likely would have chosen different schools. But at the same time, would I have had similar experiences?

Also, I'm sorry that the drums sound so cheesy. I'm really sorry.

lyrics

Lyrics inspired by Sara Teasdale's "April Song".
